Government consultation on possible plastic bottle deposit return scheme

Michael Gove, the Minister for the Environment recently launched a public consultation, asking for  evidence to assist ‘the Voluntary and Economic Incentives Working Group scope out the opportunities, enablers, challenges and barriers to regulatory or voluntary measures to improving the recycling of and/or reducing littering of drinks containers’. One of the proposals under consideration is the introduction of a plastic bottle deposit return scheme, similar that which was recently announced in Scotland.
