Microbeads ban – Draft government legislation

Following the government’s announcement in 2016 (and subsequent public consultation earlier this year), that it proposed to ban the manufacture and sale of cosmetics and personal care products containing microbeads, it has now published details of its draft legislation, available to view here. Under the proposals, the ban on manufacturing will begin on 1st January 2018, with the sales ban beginning on 30th June 2018.

Any person may make representations on the draft legislation for England in writing to the Secretary of State.  Any such representations should be sent by the 15th October 2017 to:

Marine Litter Policy Team, Defra, 8B Millbank, 17 Smith Square, London, SW1P 3JR or by e-mail to: marinelitter@defra.gsi.gov.uk
