The Restoration of Raybel, a Thames Sailing Barge
Built in 1920 at Milton Creek, the Raybel carried cargos between London, the east coast ports and the near continent for over 50 years. Today, the boat’s owner Raybel Charters Community Interest Company is looking to restore the barge back at the very creek from where it was launched, so that it can once again carry out deliveries under sail and provide community activities, events, training and volunteering opportunities.
In June the company was awarded development funding of £39,300 by the Heritage Lottery Fund, in order to progress its plans ahead of applying for a full grant in 2019. As part of the development work, it has just begun a public consultation (until 1st October) and would like to hear the views of as many people as possible. You can take part in the survey here and find out more about the Raybel and the project here.
