Whose Hoo is a heritage and culture-based scheme consisting of nine partners, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and running from 2025 to 2029. During those four years the scheme aims to create a lasting framework which empowers a wide range of stakeholders, including residents, schools, and landowners, to help current and future generations enjoy, learn from, and conserve this fascinating and important landscape. The scheme aims to:
- Conserve, restore and celebrate the built and natural features that create the historic landscape character of the Hoo Peninsula
- Increase community participation in the natural and historic heritage of the Hoo Peninsula.
- Increase access to and learning about the landscape and heritage of the Hoo Peninsula.
- Create connections across the Hoo Peninsula through meaningful volunteering.
As part of the scheme, the partnership is delivering three projects:
- Mind the Gap – Working with landowners to restore hedgerows and provide management advice.
- Cleaner Coast – Monthly beach cleans across the project area.
- Wild Estuary – A schools programme of inspiring and challenging coastal educational and experiential activities for children aged 7 to 11 years old.
