Funding success for seasalter levels

Defra’s recent Green Recovery Challenge Fund has awarded the RSPB, in partnership with Canterbury City Council and Kent Wildlife Trust £1,884,900 for landscape wide restoration works at Seasalter Levels, Wraik Hill Local Nature Reserve (near Whitstable) and Blean Woods. In keeping with the Government’s 25 year Environment Plan, the project will;

Deliver large scale restoration of 228ha of wetland at Seasalter by installing new hydrological features and grazing infrastructure.

Deliver works across 1,455ha in The Blean that will prevent the drying out of this important woodland site.

Extend and restore 2ha of ancient bogs and pools.

Restore 23ha of species-rich grassland habitat at Wraik Hill Local Nature Reserve.

All above will benefit key Defra Indicator Species/Priority Habitat.

Connect more people to nature by creating a diverse volunteer task force and engaging local communities.  

4.5 FTE new jobs

Recruit and train 150 new volunteers.

Improve the visitor experience and enjoyment of green space.
